Anguilla, the northernmost of the Leeward Islands, is tucked away just off the beaten path but still accessible to those looking for a genuine Caribbean island getaway. Anguilla, known for its immaculate white sand beaches and turquoise waters, is now easier to reach than ever.

There has never been a better time to book a trip to Anguilla because there aren’t any crowds, cruise ships, or expensive hotels there.

This low-lying coral island, one of the smaller ones in the Caribbean, is only 16 miles long and 3 miles wide at its widest point. However, what it lacks in size it more than makes up for with over 33 world-class beaches, excellent restaurants, great scuba diving, and a perfect balance of upscale style and laid-back island elegance.

Swim in clear waters, explore tropical nature, or simply unwind on a deserted beach while sipping a cocktail at a cabana beach bar. Anguilla is the ideal alternative to some of the busier Caribbean islands because of its laid-back charm, which draws travelers back time and time again.

Accessing Anguilla by Plane

Flying was undoubtedly the best choice for me. It was by far the fastest and smoothest, and the price was comparable to using a shared charter boat.

Anguilla Clayton J. Newman International Airport (CJA) and Princess Juliana Airport (SXM) of St. Anguilla Air Services provide services at Lloyd Airport (AXA). With a flight time of just ten minutes, this is the quickest international flight in the world. The fact that you don’t have to go through immigration on your first visit to SXM, however, is a real-time saver.

Even better, Anguilla Air Services schedules its flights so that they coincide with the itineraries of the principal airlines. Adult round-trip tickets typically cost $200 to $240 and include a free checked bag. The cost of the airfare already includes all taxes and fees, unlike the ferries.

You will have to make separate reservations for your flights from your U.S. flights since Anguilla Air Services does not participate in any codeshare agreements. flights. For safety reasons, I advise allowing at least 90 minutes between flights in case your inbound flight is delayed. Even so, making the transfer is almost as easy as making a regular connecting flight.

When you land at SXM, a representative from the airline will greet you and direct you to the transfer desk. You do not have to go through immigration like you would with the ferry options.

You’ll receive your boarding pass and be asked how many bags you checked after having your identity confirmed. Your bags will then be picked up by the airline and transported to your subsequent flight. Due to your international flight, you will need to pass through security, but other than that, there is no need to go through immigration since you aren’t actually entering St. Maarten.

Unfortunately, it is not the same when traveling from Anguilla to St. You will need to go through immigration and recheck your luggage on your return since Anguilla Air Services cannot issue boarding passes for other airlines or transfer bags to them.

In a tiny Britten Norman Islander with only four rows of two seats each, the 12-mile flight takes place in 10 minutes. Because there isn’t much room, the bags are typically transported on a second plane.

Considering how brief the flight is, the legroom is limited but manageable. Be aware that turbulence might be easier to notice because the aircraft is smaller. I thought the beautiful scenery was the real high point of the flight. Flying was a time saver as well as a way to see more of the world.

The Bottom Line: How to Get to Anguilla?

Two routes connect St. Louis and St. Anguilla and the Maarten Airport is both accessible by sea and air. Your time constraints, along with your preferences for comfort, cost, and convenience, will ultimately determine which option is best for you.
