Disney Beach Club Pool: Why Is Stormalong Bay So Popular?

Disney Beach Club Pool

It’s no secret that we here at Resorts Gal adore Disney’s Beach Club Resort and believe everyone should book a trip there at least once! What about the pools at Disney’s Beach Club, though?

We really love this Disney Resort Hotel because of the pools, I guess. Of course, the resort’s excellent location could also play a role. Stormalong Bay is very popular at Disney. But why is it so popular? Let’s talk about it.

Stormalong Bay

Enjoy 3 acres of watery fun at this 750,000-gallon beachside wonderland.

Take a dip in a sizable pool with a sandy bottom or a leisurely river. Look around a replica shipwreck that is life-size. At Walt Disney World Resort, descend one of the tallest hotel slides.

Then, you can either retreat to one of the three whirlpool spas or simply soak up the sun’s golden rays on an elevated tanning deck.

Children can cool off in the Shipwreck Pool, complete with a miniature waterslide, by wading in from the gently sloping sandy beach.

Every member of your family can find a place to cool off and have fun at Stormalong Bay thanks to its impressive complex of pools, which range from swirling to calm or open to secluded.

Why Stormalong Bay Is So Popular

Big

Stormalong Bay features 3 acres of aquatic activities! That is roughly the size of a football field, to give you an idea of scale.3 acres! Close to 800,000 gallons of water fill the entire area. What a lot of fun and water there is!

Not only that, but this isn’t just a 3-acre pool. It’s three acres of the lazy river, two slides, a sand bottom pool, and a shipwreck replica! There’s also plenty of seating as well as three whirlpool spas.

If you are looking for a boring swimming pool, you can swim at one of the three quiet pools the two resorts share. However, if Stormalong fills up or you prefer a more sedate experience, you do have other options. We personally didn’t bother to visit these.

Disney Beach Club Pool

Kid Friendly

All the feature pools at Disney Resorts are child friendly, of course. But in my opinion, Stormalong Bay takes it a notch or two further than the rest.

Kids can engage in so many different activities at the pool. There’s the big waterslide, miniature waterslide, and sandy beach area. Additionally, there is plenty of room in the pool for kids to use their imaginations and simply enjoy swimming.

Cast Members also host tie-dye activities for kids as well as trivia and games.

Adult Friendly

Not just kids can use this pool! Adults can have plenty of fun at Stormalong Bay. In fact, we ran into a couple on their honeymoon at the bar! For a significant portion of the afternoon, we sat in their company and chatted with other adults. It is convenient to have our kids watched.

There is a bar located in the pool area with food and drinks for adults to enjoy. The lazy river is relaxing and offers a nice afternoon in the pool.

Safe

For the younger crowd, there are not only a ton of entertaining activities, but it’s also extraordinarily safe. Lifejackets are provided for children of all sizes and weights. Lifeguards are everywhere making sure children are following rules and staying safe.

Once a child splashes in the water and wants to go on the slide again, he/she has to exit the pool area and walk across the little walking path and re-enter the slide area.

Young children find it challenging to unlock the gate to enter the slide area, and they can easily run away once they leave the pool area.

The Shipwreck Replica Is Cool

When it comes to pool slides, my kids have never had more fun (aside from at real water parks, where the slides are much higher and more thrilling). They alternated between running to the slide repeatedly.

Not only is there the main 230-foot-long slide (one of the highest hotels slides at Disney!), but there is also a miniature slide for toddlers in the shipwreck area. The fact that Imagineers created a slide that kids can enjoy while still experiencing the thrill of playing on the ship is really cool.

Cabana Rentals

Want to appear posh while on vacation? Do you want your own personal Cast Member to bring your food and drink orders to a private area?

Renting a cabana is the solution.

Renting a cabana will give you access to the following conveniences:

  • Dedicated Cast Member providing service to the cabanas
  • Cocktail service
  • Ceiling fan
  • Padded furniture, including chairs and couch
  • Television with cable access
  • Charging outlet/USB
  • Mini refrigerator stocked with complimentary sodas and water
  • Fruit basket (may not be available without advance reservation)
  • Plush towels
  • Cabinet safe

These can be rented for either a half day or full day, but be aware, they book very fast! Because I made our reservation two weeks in advance, I had a disadvantage. The cabanas were all rented out by that point, which was unfortunate.

Beaches And Cream Is Nearby

One of Walt Disney World’s most entertaining restaurants is called Beaches and Cream. Yummy food, a great atmosphere, and the kitchen sink make it one of the most coveted reservations!

However, you might not want to go to your room, get dressed, and then return to the same location for food.

The to-go counter features tasty ice cream and treats for you to indulge in while you’re hanging out at the pool. This is a great place to pick up ice cream for the kids since the food at the pool bar isn’t particularly kid-friendly.

Unfortunately, the full menu is not available at the to-go counter. If you want a burger or other entree, I recommend using mobile order to grab food from the Marketplace at either Beach Club or Yacht Club.

The counter is also currently closed, probably due to worries about physical proximity.
